WHO: New Traffic Injury Prevention Project

The World Health Organization has received a grant to undertake a road traffic injury prevention project in Vietnam and Mexico. The project – funded by the Bloomberg Philanthropies – will partner with the government in those two countries as well as with non-governmental organizations to increase motorcycle helmet use, reduce drink-driving, and increase seat-belt use. Strategies include capacity building, training police to improve enforcement, and supporting prevention efforts. In addition, the project will test strategies and the effectiveness of different kinds of road safety programmes in different environments.
